This paper discusses the current difficulties a medium-size Spanish utility may find when calculating the optimum level of maintenance costs. There are several methodologies already published to perform such work but, in general, they could result too information-demanding, according to the average amount and quality of data available to managers. Three straightforward methods are here suggested, detailing their strong and weak points, conditions to be met to apply them and a particular case study.
