This paper gives a general method for designing control devices of the water hammer by applying sensitivity analysis techniques. The procedure followed is iterative and has a good, quick and sure convergence. The article shows an example of a pumping station in which the control of the water hammer is made by adding a flywheel whose inertia constitutes the parameter to be determined. Finally an example of the procedure may be seen.
