Abstract
This paper describes a case of accident of a singular air vessel in which double way air valves had been installed. The function to carry out by such device was to act as a pressurized reservoir, avoiding the necessary auxiliary compressor for providing air losses. As a consequence of an important thermal gradient due to a variation of the temperature with the time, of about 17 ºC, happened during the night (from 11 p.m. until 7 a.m.), added to a quick expansion of the entrapped air against a slow compression, the air vessel was subjected to a unexpected depression that collapsed entirely the reservoir.
